Project Breakdown
Competitive Analysis
Prior to beginning the UX phase of the project, I initiated research on existing mentorship apps. Through creating a comprehensive competitive analysis chart, I aimed to discern the strengths and weaknesses of competitors on a broader scale, identifying potential areas of enhancement to distinguish Mentor Link in the market.
UX Research
Following my competitive analysis, I conducted user interviews to gain deeper insights into user preferences and pain points.
All interviews have been conducted remotely by using Google Meet
7 people were Interviewed, age ranging from 19 - 32.
Among them - people who are currently enrolled in college, as well as, individuals who have already graduated and are currently already in the work force,
or individuals looking to obtain a new career.
-
Overview
A desire for both educational and career growth but also personal development as well

Research Findings
A heavy focus on one specific career field. Therefore making users feel limited in their choices for mentors
Lack of incentive to really keep the user engaged and want to return to the app
User Flow
It was clear based off the research and findings during the UX phase that I needed to design a user flow before creating my wireframes.

Problems/Solutions
-
A desire for both educational and career growth but also personal development as well
I've established a dedicated page for users, offering an array of valuable resources including blog posts, informative webinars, and curated book recommendations, fostering a space for exploration and inspiration. Users are encouraged to freely browse, empowering themselves with knowledge to fuel both educational and career growth, as well as personal development endeavors.
-
A heavy focus on one specific career field. Therefore making users feel limited in their choices for mentors
I was able to address this issue by creating a toggle switch conveniently located on the left side, enabling users to seamlessly transition between Career and Lifestyle modes. This functionality empowers users to effortlessly navigate between their professional growth aspirations and personal development interests, ensuring a diverse and enriching mentorship experience. By providing access to mentors from both career and lifestyle domains, users benefit from a broad spectrum of perspectives and expertise, fulfilling their diverse needs and preferences.
-
Lack of incentive to really keep the user engaged and want to return to the app
To address the issue of user engagement and retention, I proposed an enticing solution: implementing mini lessons tailored to the user's chosen category within the app. Each completed lesson earns users points, which accumulate towards rewards such as complimentary mentor sessions, offering tangible incentives to keep them actively engaged and motivated to return to the platform.

Outcome
The end result is the successful creation of an innovative mentorship platform that seamlessly integrates career growth and personal development. By addressing key challenges such as limited mentor options and user engagement, I devised creative solutions including a toggle switch for easy navigation between career and lifestyle modes, as well as the implementation of mini lessons with reward incentives. These enhancements resulted in a user-centric experience that fosters holistic growth, empowers users with diverse mentorship opportunities, and cultivates a thriving community of learners and mentors alike.
